What shapes the award.
- Weekly range
- $47 to $801. Wage requirements still apply.
- Duration
- Up to 26 weeks under this program. The modeled benefit balance is $20,826.
- Dependents
- No dependents allowance in this modeled regular benefit.
- Base period
- First four of the last five completed calendar quarters before the Sunday claim start. An alternate or extended period may be available under the state’s conditions. Understand the quarters.
- Covered-wage requirements
- Have at least $5,500 in covered base-period wages and total wages at least 1.5 times the highest quarter, requiring at least two paid quarters. DWS decides covered work, repeat claims and all nonmonetary eligibility.
- Partial-week conditions
- Work fewer than forty hours and earn strictly less than the weekly rate. Ignore exactly 30% of the weekly rate, deduct excess earnings dollar for dollar, then round the payment down to a dollar. Report gross wages for the week worked, not when paid.
- Duration conditions
- Multiply total covered wages by 27% and floor to a dollar. Divide by the weekly rate and floor to a whole week, then apply the ten-week minimum and twenty-six-week maximum. The regular balance is that number of whole weeks times the weekly rate; ongoing weekly eligibility is required.
- Work registration
- Register for employment services as directed by DWS and complete assigned reemployment appointments. Keep the online account and contact details current.
Before you count on it.
- Covered wages and employment are required.
- This checks only the modeled monetary rules. The agency also checks your employment history and other eligibility conditions.
- Separation, availability, work search and certification can affect payment.
- Tax withholding, offsets and agency adjustments can change the amount received.

Keeping the claim eligible.
Ordinarily contact four new employers about work each week, including the waiting week, and keep a written log. Follow any approved employer-attachment, union or training exception and agency instructions.
Read the official guidanceTaxes and the amount received.
Benefits are taxable. DWS offers optional 10% federal and 5% Utah withholding and supplies Form 1099-G. Estimates are before withholding and other deductions.

Waiting periods and processing time are different things.
- Apply with the agency
Use the official portal. Keep required records and confirm the claim or injury date.
- 7-day modeled wait
One otherwise eligible first week is unpaid. File its weekly claim and meet the work-search requirements so DWS can credit the waiting week.
- Certify and confirm payment
Submit a weekly claim for the completed Sunday-Saturday week through the DWS online account. Continue filing while a decision is pending and report all work and gross earnings for the week worked.

Questions about Utah benefits.
How much unemployment will I get if I make $2,800 a week?
The modeled payment in Utah is about $801 per week, before tax withholding. Assumes the same gross weekly pay throughout four 13-week quarters. The agency checks eligibility and can apply additional adjustments.
How long can the benefit last in Utah?
This calculation allows up to 26 payable weeks under the modeled regular program. This count uses the regular weekly rate; the final payment may be smaller. Wage credits, the benefit-year balance, certification and continuing eligibility can shorten payment. A maximum duration is not a guarantee.
Is there a waiting period before the first payment?
One otherwise eligible first week is unpaid. File its weekly claim and meet the work-search requirements so DWS can credit the waiting week.
Why can my actual payment be different?
Uneven covered wages, the claim or injury date, part-time earnings, dependents, taxes, offsets and eligibility can change a result. Use actual wage details in the calculator and compare the assumptions with your agency determination.
