Use actual wages & more details

Leave all quarters blank for steady pay. To use actual wages, fill all four; use 0 for an unpaid quarter.

Use DLT-selected covered quarters. If the standard period fails, the agency can use the latest four completed quarters; wages previously used through an alternate period cannot be reused. Dependency status is established at the benefit-year start, and only one claimant may receive an allowance for a child in the same week.

Only states with an allowance use this input.

What shapes the award.

Weekly range
$82 to $777. Wage requirements still apply.
Duration
Up to 26 weeks under this program. The modeled benefit balance is $20,202.
Dependents
The state has a dependents rule. Qualifying relationships and limits apply; use the dependents input to model it.
Base period
First four of the last five completed calendar quarters before the new claim starts. An alternate or extended period may be available under the state’s conditions. Understand the quarters.
Benefit balance and dependents
The regular benefit balance excludes the dependency allowance. Eligible allowances are paid separately for weeks with a payable benefit; they do not shorten the duration shown.
Covered-wage requirements
Qualify with at least $19,200 in total covered wages, or meet all three ordinary tests: $3,200 in a quarter, $6,400 total and total wages at least 1.5 times the highest quarter. The $19,200 alternative can qualify one paid quarter. Repeat claims require $1,280 of covered wages since the preceding claim began.
Partial-week conditions
For less-than-full-time work, gross earnings must be strictly below 150% of the regular weekly rate. Ignore 50% of that rate rounded down to a dollar, then deduct excess wages and floor the regular payment. The dependent allowance is proportional to the partial regular payment and floored. The enacted June 19, 2026 extension keeps this temporary rule through June 30, 2029.
Duration conditions
The regular balance is the lesser of 33% of covered base-period wages or twenty-six regular weekly rates, floored to a dollar. Dependent allowances are paid in addition to that balance. A smaller final regular payment may exhaust credits; weeks displayed count that possible final payment.
Work registration
DLT registers Rhode Island residents and commuters for reemployment services when they file. Other claimants register with their resident state. Attend any mandatory RESEA appointment.

Before you count on it.

  • Covered wages and employment are required.
  • This checks only the modeled monetary rules. The agency also checks your employment history and other eligibility conditions.
  • Separation, availability, work search and certification can affect payment.
  • Tax withholding, offsets and agency adjustments can change the amount received.

This is a wage calculation and an informational screen. Your agency or insurer decides your claim.

Keeping the claim eligible.

Complete three qualifying activities each claimed week: at least one suitable job application and at least two other accepted search activities. Keep the work-search log for at least one year; only an agency-approved exception changes this requirement.

Taxes and the amount received.

UI is taxable income and DLT supplies Form 1099-G. Optional tax withholding can be changed during the claim; the estimate shows gross amounts before withholding and offsets.

From applying to getting paid.

Waiting periods and processing time are different things.

  1. Apply with the agency

Use the official portal. Keep required records and confirm the claim or injury date.

  2. 7-day modeled wait

Serve one unpaid Sunday-Saturday waiting week at the start of a new claim. The current FAQ requires waiting-week earnings below the benefit rate; DLT decides when it is served.

  3. Certify and confirm payment

Request the preceding Sunday-Saturday week once every week through UI Online or by phone, following the dates in the agency mailing. No particular weekday is required. Report wages when worked, and bonuses or commissions when received. Continue requests during an appeal; a missed entire certification week requires refiling.

Questions about Rhode Island benefits.

How much unemployment will I get if I make $2,200 a week?

The modeled payment in Rhode Island is about $777 per week, before tax withholding. Assumes the same gross weekly pay throughout four 13-week quarters. The agency checks eligibility and can apply additional adjustments.

How long can the benefit last in Rhode Island?

This calculation allows up to 26 payable weeks under the modeled regular program. This count uses the regular weekly rate; the final payment may be smaller. Wage credits, the benefit-year balance, certification and continuing eligibility can shorten payment. A maximum duration is not a guarantee.

Is there a waiting period before the first payment?

Serve one unpaid Sunday-Saturday waiting week at the start of a new claim. The current FAQ requires waiting-week earnings below the benefit rate; DLT decides when it is served.

Why can my actual payment be different?

Uneven covered wages, the claim or injury date, part-time earnings, dependents, taxes, offsets and eligibility can change a result. Use actual wage details in the calculator and compare the assumptions with your agency determination.

Where do I apply or check my claim?
