Assumes the same gross weekly pay throughout four 13-week quarters. Uses 52 qualifying base-period weeks; confirm that count with the agency.
The current annual limits apply to new applications from December 28, 2025 through December 26, 2026. Ohio indexes both caps and qualifying wages from the Sunday of the week containing January 1. New limits may apply from December 27, before January 2027; they are not assumed. Existing claims may keep their original rate.
Rule under review. Confirm the amount with the official agency.
The current qualifying-week wage threshold and the cap for one or two dependents still need agency source review. Amounts assume ODJFS confirms monetary eligibility; estimates needing the unresolved cap are paused. Use the agency’s selected quarters and qualifying-week count, especially near a quarter boundary.

What shapes the award.
- Weekly range
- $176 to $624. Wage requirements still apply.
- Duration
- Up to 26 weeks under this program. The modeled benefit balance is $16,224.
- Dependents
- The state has a dependents rule. Qualifying relationships and limits apply; use the dependents input to model it.
- Base period
- First four of the last five completed calendar quarters. An alternate or extended period may be available under the state’s conditions. Understand the quarters.
- Alternate-period detail
- The latest four completed quarters are used only when the regular period lacks qualifying weeks or wages. Employer reports and payroll documentation control; quarters cannot be reused for the next benefit year.
- Reporting work
- Report exact gross earnings for the week worked. Work must be involuntarily reduced and less than full-time; gross earnings must be below the weekly rate before applying its 20% disregard. The remaining payment rounds down. Separation pay, pensions and other income have separate deductions.
- Who counts as a dependent
- Qualifying dependents change the weekly cap rather than add a separate allowance. Class A covers no dependents or insufficient wages to exceed its cap; B covers one or two dependents; C covers three or more. Supported children and a qualifying supported spouse have relationship, age, 90-day support and spouse-income conditions. Only one spouse can claim a higher class during overlapping benefit years. The current B cap remains under review.
- Partial-week conditions
- Gross earnings must be less than the weekly benefit amount and work must be less than full-time. The earnings ceiling applies before the 20% benefit disregard.
- Repeat benefit years
- The previous benefit year must expire. Since it began, a repeat applicant must perform covered work in at least six weeks and earn at least three times the prior benefit year’s average weekly wage. Only actual services count. This separate intervening-work history is not tested by the quarterly estimate.
Before you count on it.
- Covered wages and employment are required.
- Some monetary thresholds are still under review. These amounts assume the agency confirms monetary eligibility; only the completed wage checks are applied.
- Separation, availability, work search and certification can affect payment.
- Tax withholding, offsets and agency adjustments can change the amount received.

Keeping the claim eligible.
Unless the agency grants an exception, complete two verifiable work-search activities each week and retain records for 18 months. Keep OhioMeansJobs registration active, upload a complete searchable resume by week 4 and complete the Career Profile by week 8. Follow assigned reemployment services; assisted alternatives and exemptions have agency conditions.
Read the official guidanceTaxes and the amount received.
Benefits are subject to federal and Ohio income tax. Federal and state withholding can be elected; the statute allows one withholding-status change per benefit year. Confirm current rates and elections with ODJFS. This estimate is before withholding and offsets.

Waiting periods and processing time are different things.
- Apply with the agency
Use the official portal. Keep required records and confirm the claim or injury date.
- 7-day modeled wait
One otherwise eligible unpaid waiting week is required in a benefit year for ordinary total or partial unemployment. File its claim and meet the work and search conditions even though the waiting week is unpaid. Approval and processing are separate.
- Certify and confirm payment
File each completed week as directed through the agency portal or telephone system, including the waiting week and while a decision is pending. The current rule allows filing through the end of the third calendar week after the claimed week; agency-approved circumstances can extend that limit. File promptly and report work, earnings and required search activities.

Questions about Ohio benefits.
How much unemployment will I get if I make $2,850 a week?
The modeled payment in Ohio is about $624 per week, before tax withholding. Assumes the same gross weekly pay throughout four 13-week quarters. Uses 52 qualifying base-period weeks; confirm that count with the agency. The agency checks eligibility and can apply additional adjustments.
How long can the benefit last in Ohio?
This calculation allows up to 26 payable weeks under the modeled regular program. This count uses the regular weekly rate; the final payment may be smaller. Wage credits, the benefit-year balance, certification and continuing eligibility can shorten payment. A maximum duration is not a guarantee.
Is there a waiting period before the first payment?
One otherwise eligible unpaid waiting week is required in a benefit year for ordinary total or partial unemployment. File its claim and meet the work and search conditions even though the waiting week is unpaid. Approval and processing are separate.
Why can my actual payment be different?
Uneven covered wages, the claim or injury date, part-time earnings, dependents, taxes, offsets and eligibility can change a result. Use actual wage details in the calculator and compare the assumptions with your agency determination.
