What shapes the award.

Weekly range
$70 to $582. Wage requirements still apply.
Duration
Up to 26 weeks under this program. The modeled benefit balance is $15,132.
Dependents
No dependents allowance in this modeled regular benefit.
Base period
First four of the last five completed quarters before the benefit year begins. An alternate or extended period may be available under the state’s conditions. Understand the quarters.
Covered-wage requirements
Have at least $5,440 in covered base-period wages, at least $1,850 in one quarter and at least $800 in a different quarter. Separation, availability and weekly eligibility remain agency decisions.
Partial-week conditions
For ordinary weeks below full-time, gross wages must be less than the weekly rate. Ignore the first 25% of that rate, deduct excess wages dollar for dollar and round the payment down to a whole dollar. Do not round the payment to an even dollar.
Duration conditions
The ordinary balance is the lesser of twenty-six weekly rates or one-third of covered base-period wages. Payments round down to whole dollars and a smaller final payment can exhaust the balance. Disqualifying separations, training and existing claims require separate agency review.
Work registration
Register in NEworks and maintain an online searchable resume. If living outside Nebraska, follow the agency instructions for registration with employment services in your home state.
Repeat benefit years
After receiving benefits in a prior benefit year, new covered work and wages of at least six times the previous weekly rate are required before another benefit year. NDOL decides the wage period and coverage.

Before you count on it.

  • Covered wages and employment are required.
  • This checks only the modeled monetary rules. The agency also checks your employment history and other eligibility conditions.
  • Separation, availability, work search and certification can affect payment.
  • Tax withholding, offsets and agency adjustments can change the amount received.

Keeping the claim eligible.

Ordinarily complete five reemployment activities per week, including at least two suitable job applications. Record the details with the weekly claim and follow any approved work-attachment, union or training exception.

Read the official guidance

Taxes and the amount received.

Benefits are taxable and reported on Form 1099-G. Optional federal and state withholding can be elected or changed in NEworks. Estimates are before withholding, child support and other offsets.

From applying to getting paid.

Waiting periods and processing time are different things.

  1. Apply with the agency

Use the official portal. Keep required records and confirm the claim or injury date.

  2. 7-day modeled wait

File a claim for one otherwise eligible unpaid waiting week. The waiting week must meet all other requirements and does not produce an initial payment.

  3. Certify and confirm payment

Request benefits in NEworks after each Sunday-Saturday week ends, starting Sunday and before the following Saturday ends. Report gross wages for the week worked and continue filing while a decision is pending.

Questions about Nebraska benefits.

How much unemployment will I get if I make $2,788.46 a week?

The modeled payment in Nebraska is about $582 per week, before tax withholding. Assumes the same gross weekly pay throughout four 13-week quarters. The agency checks eligibility and can apply additional adjustments.

How long can the benefit last in Nebraska?

This calculation allows up to 26 payable weeks under the modeled regular program. This count uses the regular weekly rate; the final payment may be smaller. Wage credits, the benefit-year balance, certification and continuing eligibility can shorten payment. A maximum duration is not a guarantee.

Is there a waiting period before the first payment?

File a claim for one otherwise eligible unpaid waiting week. The waiting week must meet all other requirements and does not produce an initial payment.

Why can my actual payment be different?

Uneven covered wages, the claim or injury date, part-time earnings, dependents, taxes, offsets and eligibility can change a result. Use actual wage details in the calculator and compare the assumptions with your agency determination.

Where do I apply or check my claim?
