What shapes the award.
- Weekly range
- $218 to $530. Wage requirements still apply.
- Duration
- Up to 26 weeks under this program. The modeled benefit balance is $10,374.
- Dependents
- The state has a dependents rule. Qualifying relationships and limits apply; use the dependents input to model it.
- Base period
- First four of the last five completed quarters before the Sunday benefit-year start. An alternate or extended period may be available under the state’s conditions. Understand the quarters.
- Covered-wage requirements
- Have wages in at least two quarters. Meet both $5,328 in the highest quarter and total wages at least 1.5 times that quarter, or meet the alternate earnings qualifier of $26,677.60 in total wages (20 times the published 2026 state average weekly wage).
- Who counts as a dependent
- UIA checks qualifying relationships and whether you supplied more than half the dependent’s support for at least ninety days before layoff. Additions are part of the weekly rate; they are not paid outside the cap or balance.
- Partial-week conditions
- For ordinary work below full-time, deduct fifty cents per whole dollar earned. Combined earnings and benefits cannot exceed 1.5 times the weekly rate. The final payment rounds down; gross earnings at that ceiling leave no benefit. Special flexible-week claims require UIA review.
- Duration conditions
- Multiply total wages by 43%, divide by the weekly rate and round down to a whole or half week. Credits range from fourteen to twenty-six weeks. A half week is a smaller final payment, so the display counts the weeks in which some payment remains. Each payable partial week uses one week of entitlement.
- Work registration
- Create a MiTalent jobseeker account and complete verified registration with Michigan Works before the first certification. An in-person or approved virtual appointment can complete the second step; follow any agency waiver.
Before you count on it.
- Covered wages and employment are required.
- This checks only the modeled monetary rules. The agency also checks your employment history and other eligibility conditions.
- Separation, availability, work search and certification can affect payment.
- Tax withholding, offsets and agency adjustments can change the amount received.

Keeping the claim eligible.
Beginning July 19, 2026, ordinarily report three unique qualifying work-search activities for each claimed week. Keep the details and follow any written waiver or assigned reemployment services.
Read the official guidanceTaxes and the amount received.
Benefits are federally and Michigan taxable. The agency’s optional combined election withholds 10% federal and 4.25% state tax; its handbook says you cannot elect only one. The estimate is before withholding and offsets.

Waiting periods and processing time are different things.
- Apply with the agency
Use the official portal. Keep required records and confirm the claim or injury date.
- 0-day modeled wait
There is no modeled unpaid waiting week. Initial payment is held until ten days after the monetary determination is mailed; this administrative review period is different from an unpaid benefit week.
- Certify and confirm payment
Certify every two weeks in MiWAM by Saturday 11:59 p.m. of the assigned reporting week, or use MARVIN at your scheduled time. Continue reporting while a decision is pending and report wages for the week worked.

Questions about Michigan benefits.
How much unemployment will I get if I make $750 a week?
The modeled payment in Michigan is about $399 per week, before tax withholding. Assumes the same gross weekly pay throughout four 13-week quarters. The agency checks eligibility and can apply additional adjustments.
How long can the benefit last in Michigan?
This calculation allows up to 26 payable weeks under the modeled regular program. This count uses the regular weekly rate; the final payment may be smaller. Wage credits, the benefit-year balance, certification and continuing eligibility can shorten payment. A maximum duration is not a guarantee.
Is there a waiting period before the first payment?
There is no modeled unpaid waiting week. Initial payment is held until ten days after the monetary determination is mailed; this administrative review period is different from an unpaid benefit week.
Why can my actual payment be different?
Uneven covered wages, the claim or injury date, part-time earnings, dependents, taxes, offsets and eligibility can change a result. Use actual wage details in the calculator and compare the assumptions with your agency determination.
